St. Louis Work Zones for July 15-21:

Westbound I-44 near I-270 closes over weekend

ST. LOUIS – Drivers who use the Interstate 44 and Interstate 270 interchange in south west St. Louis County should be prepared for additional delays over the next month, especially this weekend.

Crews will close westbound I-44 near I-270 over the next two weekends to remove and replace a girder on the I-270 bridge over the westbound lanes.  The girder was struck by an over height truck last year and needs repair. Crews will remove the girder this weekend and will replace it the next weekend.

On Thursday, July 15, crews will close much of the deceleration lane – the lane people use to slow down for the exit -- from northbound I-270 to westbound I-44.  The lane closes after the morning rush ends around 9 a.m. The exit ramp will remain open, except over the next two weekends, but drivers will have to use the exit from the right hand through lane on northbound I-270.  Drivers using northbound I-270 should be aware of traffic slowing to exit while that exit lane is closed for the next 30 days.

By 8:30  p.m. Friday, July 16, crews will close all lanes of westbound I-44 at I-270 including the ramp from northbound I-270 to westbound I-44 .  All westbound I-44 traffic will have to exit to I-270.  To get back to westbound I-44, drivers will have to follow I-270 northbound to Dougherty Ferry and take southbound I-270 to the westbound I-44 ramp. Most of the westbound I-44 lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, July 19. One lane in that area remains closed through the remainder of the year for the Meramec River Bridge project.

All work is weather permitting.

For more on roadway closures due to construction, additional work zone information and real-time roadway weather conditions go to http://traveler.modot.org/map.  For real-time traffic, visit www.gatewayguide.com. All work is subject to change and may be shifted due to inclement weather.
