CLAY COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation has made the following changes as part of a project to replace the NE 53rd Terrace Bridge over I-435 in Clay County.
Crews have narrowed all northbound and southbound lanes of I-435 at the NE 53rd Terrace Bridge to 11 feet and have also shifted traffic towards the median. This traffic configuration will remain in place until Monday, September 27.
Over the weekend (June 25-27) crews removed the old NE 53rd Terrace Bridge over I-435 as part of a project to replace it with a new bridge.
The old bridge was built in 1969 and had reached its projected service life. The new bridge will include two, 12-foot lanes with four-foot shoulders and a six-foot sidewalk on the south side of the bridge. This project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2021.
Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
