Roadway Improvement Work to Impact Route 50 Traffic in Cole County

COLE COUNTY – A contractor working for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will begin making various roadway improvements on Route 50 in Cole County next week.

Starting Wednesday, June 23, crews will begin resurfacing both directions of Route 50 from West Truman Boulevard in Jefferson City to Kaylor Bridge Road in St. Martins and from Route M in Taos to Stoney Gap Road. This work will require nightly lane closures in order for crews to mill the current pavement and add a new asphalt overlay on Route 50 between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Signs will be in place to alert motorists of the closures.

Once the resurfacing work is complete, crews will begin resurfacing various Route 50 ramps, interchanges, shoulders, ramp shoulders, improving guardrail and adding rumble strips in both locations. This work could require temporary ramp closures.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down in work zones, obey all traffic signs and give crews on the road plenty of room. Delays are possible and MoDOT says they appreciate the patience of travelers while the work takes place.

This project is expected to be completed by November.

Work is weather permitting and could be delayed.
