Barrier work narrows southbound Interstate 229 for two weeks

St. Joseph, Mo. – Barrier work has narrowed the southbound lanes of Interstate 229, south of U.S. Route 36, as part of the I-229 resurfacing project. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the $5,599,536.83 project to Herzog Contracting Corp., of St. Joseph. The project extends from the U.S. Route 71 intersection in Andrew County to Route 371 (22nd Street) in Buchanan County and is expected to continue through September.

Barrier work began today, June 7 and will continue for approximately two weeks. All traffic is shifted to the passing (left) lane between the U.S. Route 36 on-ramp and the off-ramp to 6th and Atchison Streets. The acceleration/deceleration (far right) lane and the driving (right) lane will be closed during the operation.

A 10-foot width restriction is in place. Crews will work during daylight hours, Monday through Saturday.
