St. Joseph, Mo. – A new signal cabinet, new detection equipment, and flashing yellow arrow signals will be installed next week at the intersection of U.S. Route 169 (Belt Highway) and Beck Road. Replacing the signal cabinet is part of routine signal maintenance. MoDOT electricians will take advantage of the work to place detection equipment and install flashing yellow arrow signal heads for north/south traffic on the Belt Highway. The signals for east/west traffic on Beck Road will remain the same.
Improvements are scheduled to begin Thursday night, May 20, at 7 p.m. and will continue through 7 a.m. on Friday, May 21. Single-lane closures and turning restrictions may be in place at the intersection while work is ongoing. It may also be necessary to turn off the power at the intersection for brief periods of time. During signal power outages, drivers should treat the intersection as a four-way stop.
Flashing yellow arrows are in use in St. Joseph, many areas of Northwest Missouri and across the country. They have proven to increase safety and reduce crashes. All work is weather-permitting and schedules are subject to change.
