MoDOT: I-49 Reduced to One Lane in Each Direction, Traffic Shifted Head-to-Head In Northbound Lanes

Between MM 70 & 74 Beginning Week of May 31

Barton County – Drivers can expect traffic delays when I-49 is reduced to one lane in each direction and drivers are shifted head-to-head in the northbound lanes between 30th Road and Missouri Route 126 (mile markers 70-74) south of Lamar beginning the week of May 31, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Traffic will be in this configuration for up to four months.

Contractor crews will begin work to replace the southbound I-49 bridge over North Fork Spring. Construction of the crossover lanes will begin the week of May 17. Traffic will be shifted to head-to-head configuration the week of May 31.

Traffic Impacts:

  • Northbound and southbound I-49 left lane closures during installation of the crossover lanes the week of May 17
  • I-49 traffic shifted head-to-head in the northbound lanes between 30th Road and Missouri Route 126 (mile markers 70-74) south of Lamar
  • Expect delays during high traffic volume times
  • Only one lane open in each direction
  • Speed limit reduced to 60 mph through the work zone
  • Drivers are to consider alternate routes during the project

This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

Weather and/or construction delays could alter the work schedule.
