Boone County Bridge Replacement Approved by the MHTC

JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission (MHTC) has approved the replacement of the Interstate 70 Outer Road bridge over Little Cedar Creek in Boone County.

The current bridge, which is located between Boone County Route Z and North Purdy Lane, east of Columbia, was built in 1961The bridge will be replaced with an extension of the large box culvert that currently runs under nearby Interstate 70. As a result, the road over the creek will be one foot wider with two-foot shoulders, improving safety for travelers.

At its regular meeting today, the MHTC awarded the contract for the project to Don Schnieders Excavating, which submitted the low bid of $614,643.

Work will begin this summer, though a start date has not yet been established. Once work begins, the road will be closed for up to three months. MoDOT will alert the public with updates through signs, news releases and social media once a start date has been determined.

This bridge is included in Governor Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.
