Jasper County – Drivers should expect traffic delays and lane closings when a project to rehabilitate bridges over Opossum Creek near Mile Marker 65, and Coon Creek and the Missouri & Northern Arkansas (MNA) Railroad near Mile Marker 67 begins the week of May 3, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Contractor crews will remove the bridge deck (driving surface) on the northbound and southbound bridges over Opossum Creek, the northbound bridge over Coon Creek and the northbound bridge over the MNA Railroad and replace them with a new surface.
The contractor will begin with the Coon Creek bridge. The Coon Creek bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.
The project also includes adding rumble strips, repairing bridge approaches and adding new guardrail.
Traffic Impacts:
- Beginning the week of May 3, drivers experience lane closings ‘round the clock and traffic delays in the northbound driving lane of the Coon Creek and MNA Railroad bridges
- At least one lane of traffic will be open at all times in the area where crews are working
- The northbound on ramp at Jasper County Route H/K will be CLOSED for the duration of the project
- Drivers will be directed to use a signed detour using southbound I-49 and Jasper County Route M/N
- Drivers are urged to seek alternate routes to avoid the construction and possible traffic delays
