Traffic alert: Southbound I-49 OPEN in Joplin; Northbound I-49 Scheduled to CLOSE Monday, April 19

What/Where: Southbound I-49 OPEN to traffic south of I-44 in Joplin following completion of Phase I of pavement replacement project

When: As of 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 13

Details: Southbound I-49 was closed the week of April 5 from I-44 south approximately 1.4 miles in Joplin to replace concrete pavement. Phase II of this project, both northbound lanes of I-49, is scheduled to begin Monday, April 19. All northbound lanes will CLOSE ‘round the clock for up to 16 days between I-44 and a point approximately 1.4 miles south. Route FF (32 Street) northbound ramps also will be CLOSED. Drivers will be directed to signed detours using Business Loop 49 (Range Line Road/Gateway Drive), I-44 and Missouri Route 59.

Once pavement replacement is finished in the northbound lanes, contractor crews will go back and perform a smoothing process in the southbound- and northbound lanes to complete the final driving surface.

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the schedule.
