U.S. Route 63 and Business Route 63 in Macon
Project

MACON – Weather permitting, April 19, crews will begin an improvement project on U.S. Route 63 and Business 36 in Macon. The project consists of removing a layer of road (milling) and resurfacing, American with Disabilities (ADA) improvements and signal upgrades. The U.S. 63 project will run from four miles north of Macon to the divided highway south of Macon. The Business 36 portion will run between U.S. 63 and U.S. Route 36.

ADA work will begin first on U.S. Route 63, followed by milling and resurfacing. Traffic will remain open to one lane in each direction while the work is completed. If for any reason, the contractor cannot maintain one lane open in each direction during the resurfacing work, the work will take place at night, with a pilot car leading motorists through the work zone.

Business 36 will be resurfaced from U.S. 63 intersection to U.S. 36 highway, as well as crosswalk improvements near Wal-Mart. Again, if for any reason, the contractor cannot maintain one lane open in each direction during the resurfacing work, the work will take place at night, with a pilot car leading motorists through the work zone.

There will also be resurfacing work take place at the U.S. 63/U.S. 36 interchange, which will require temporary ramp, entrances and Business 36 closures to complete the work in that area.

“We understand these lane closures will be inconvenient, yet they are necessary in order to provide safety for drivers and construction workers,” said Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Brian Untiedt. “We appreciate everyone’s patience during these improvement projects,” he added.

Capital Paving & Construction, LLC, of Columbia, Missouri, was awarded the contract in the amount of $2,649,980.42.
