U.S. Route 36 Missouri River Bridge to narrow for inspection

St. Joseph, Mo. – The bridge over the Missouri River on U.S. Route 36 in St. Joseph will soon narrow for an under-bridge inspection in preparation for a rehabilitation project. The Missouri Department of Transportation has brought in consultants from both Garver and Hg Consult Inc. to conduct the inspection and design the rehabilitation project.

A bridge inspection is currently scheduled for April 5 – 9, to provide information for the design team. During the inspection, a snooper truck will be employed to get a closer look under the bridge. One lane of U.S. Route 36 in each direction may be closed during daylight hours to safely conduct the inspection. Motorists should expect delays.

The rehabilitation project is currently scheduled to be part of the Dec. 17, 2021 letting, where contractors will be able to submit bids for the project. Construction is not scheduled to begin until early 2022.

All work is weather-permitting and schedules are subject to change. Please remember that all work zones are NO PHONE zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive. Motorist are urged to slow down, eliminate distractions, pay attention to all roadway signing and to never drive around barricades.
