Interstate 229 resurfacing project begins next week

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Motorists on Interstate 229 will encounter single-lane traffic in various locations beginning next week and continuing through September. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the $5,599,536.83 resurfacing project to Herzog Contracting Corp., of St. Joseph. The project extends from the U.S. Route 71 intersection in Andrew County to Route 371 (22nd Street) in Buchanan County.

Crews plan to begin pavement repairs in preparation for the resurfacing on Thursday, March 25. One lane each direction of I-229 will remain open during the work and a 10-foot width restriction will be in place for the duration of the project. Crews will work during daylight hours, Monday through Saturday. Some lane closures may remain in place overnight.

Motorist are urged to stay alert and pay attention to all roadway signing and barricades and to eliminate distractions. Crews will be working close to traffic. Please remember that all work zones are NO PHONE zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive.
