St. Joseph, Mo. – A project to repair scour around the piers and abutments of three bridges on Mercer County Routes JJ and E will begin next week. Contractors from Leavenworth Excavating & Equipment Company, Inc., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will close one lane of traffic on Monday, March 22, at the bridge over Honey Creek on Route JJ, approximately 2 miles east of Route Y near Spickard.
When that bridge work is complete, crews will move to the Honey Creek Bridges on Route JJ, 0.5 miles east of Route Y, and Route E, 0.6 miles east of Route Y near Princeton. The second bridge on Route JJ is expected to begin around March 31 with the Route E bridge beginning around April 8. Work on all three bridges should be complete by mid-April.
Crews plan to work Monday through Friday, daylight hours, though some Saturday work may be required. While workers are present, one lane will be closed with a 10-foot width restriction in the open lane. Traffic will reopen to two lanes each evening.
Drivers are urged to stay alert and pay attention to all roadway signing and barricades. All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change. Please remember that all roadways are NO PHONE zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive.
