Montgomery Route J Bridge Rehabilitation Set to Begin

MACON – Weather permitting, Monday, April 5, crews will close Montgomery County Route J at Clear Creek, located 2.5 miles west of Missouri Route 19 near Big Spring, for bridge rehabilitation. E & C Bridge, LLC, of Jamestown, Missouri, was awarded the project. The contractor has 45 days to complete this project.

This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

“The existing bridge was built in 1962, and with significant deterioration of the deck over the years, it is time to replace the deck,” said Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Erik Maninga.  “While we’re there, we’ll do some additional repair and rehabilitation work to the bridge, to give it many more years of life, and make some additional improvements," he added.

The new bridge will be 22 feet wide, that is two feet wider than the existing bridge. Guardrail will also be added for safety.

Crews will begin setting signs for the project to notify motorists of the closure.
