MoDOT to close EB I-70 at Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge Sunday

ST. LOUIS – Drivers heading out of the city of St. Louis or into Illinois should use Interstate 270 or Interstate 64 for the foreseeable future as crews will close all eastbound lanes of Interstate70 at the Mississippi River at 6 a.m. Sunday.

Crews need to make repairs to an expansion joint on the roadway approaching the bridge.

Currently, the eastbound left lane approaching the I-70 Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge across the Mississippi River is closed to ensure that the roadway remains safe until repairs can start on Sunday.

Due to the extreme cold temperatures and expected winter weather, the work to repair the joint and ensure the roadway is safe to drive on could take at least a week.

Truck drivers should use I-270 (Chain of Rocks Bridge), I-255 (Jefferson Barracks Bridge) or I-64 (Poplar Street Bridge) to cross into Illinois.  Local drivers may consider using the Martin Luther King Bridge to get to I-64.

Drivers will be able to get to Tucker Boulevard from eastbound I-70, but will not be able to get to eastbound I-70 from Tucker Boulevard, or be able to cross the Mississippi River on eastbound I-70 on the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge until the work is completed and the roadway is safe to drive on.
