Call-in sessions scheduled for upcoming intersection improvement project in Clinton County

Online virtual public meeting ongoing for intersection of U.S. Route 69 and Route 116

LATHROP, Mo. – The public is reminded that the Missouri Department of Transportation is accepting comments through Feb. 19 on a planned project to improve the safety of the intersection of U.S. Route 69 and Route 116 in Clinton County, just east of Interstate 35.

Despite enhanced safety features, four fatality crashes have occurred there since 2011. After multiple studies, a roundabout has been proposed in an effort to further improve the safety of the intersection. Roundabouts reduce the number of impact points, eliminate the impact points that result in t-bone crashes, and force traffic to slow down while merging at gentler angles. All these greatly reduce the possibility and severity of crashes.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, MoDOT has temporarily suspended all in-person meetings but is still seeking public input on planned projects. In place of the face-to-face informational meeting, MoDOT has three avenues by which members of the public may ask questions or leave comments:

  1. Visit the project’s virtual public meeting space at https://www.modot.org/clinton-county-us-route-69-and-route-116-intersection-improvement-project.

There visitors will find the reasons for the needed safety enhancements, details about the planned improvements, a webform to leave comments or ask questions, and a way to sign up for project-specific email updates.

  1. Participate in one of two planned call-in sessions:

The call-in sessions will be held Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 9-11 a.m. and from 4-6 p.m. Participants can call 816-387-2483 during those hours to reach the project manager overseeing the design. If the line is busy, please leave a message or call back later.

  1. Mail in your comments.
