Commission Awarded Sealing and Resurfacing Projects for Routes in Lincoln County

MACON – The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission recently awarded a contract to Mid-River Asphalt, Inc, of Troy, Missouri, for projects in Lincoln County in the amount of $2,014,127.80. The projects are as follows:

Missouri Route 79 – chip seal from Pike County line to Lincoln County Route N near Winfield, the total length of improvement being 16.419 miles.

Lincoln County Route EE – chip seal from Lincoln County Route Y to MO 47 near Winfield, the total length of the improvement being 5.247 miles.

Lincoln County Route W – resurface from Lincoln County Route B to Lincoln County Route KK near Brussells, the total length of the improvement being 7.825 miles.

Lincoln County Route B – resurface from U.S. Route 61 to MO 79 at Elsberry, the total length of the improvement being 10.586 miles.

Lincoln County Route E – chip seal from Lincoln County Route O north junction to Lincoln County Route UU in Silex, the total length of the improvement being 10.839 miles

“The resurfacing projects on Route W and Route B will include a 1 ¼ inch overlay,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Erik Maninga. “The remaining projects include crews applying liquid asphalt that helps seal off any cracks that may be in the road, and then will apply small aggregate rock,” he added.

A chip seal can be accomplished without closing a road; however, it is extremely important drivers significantly reduce their speed during and immediately after the operation.  Excess rock is swept away by crews shortly after the operation is complete.  Typically, within a few days, the rock has either been embedded into the oil or removed from the surface.  The purpose of this operation is to keep a road in its same condition by infusing it with oil.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work zones while the work is completed. The work could begin as early as this spring and should be completed before fall.

“A more specific schedule on these projects will be shared after the contractor provides the plan for completing the work,” Maninga added.
