Belt Highway paving entering final stages

St. Joseph, Mo. – The multi-stage resurfacing project on U.S. Route 169 (Belt Highway) is nearing an end. The Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted with Herzog Contracting Corp. to resurface the Belt from Interstate 29 (at Exit 50) to Route FF and Route 6 (Frederick Boulevard) between the Belt Highway and I-29.

Nighttime paving operations began Oct. 11 on the Belt Highway between Route FF and Rochester Road. Crews have now completed both the right and left lanes in both directions and are set to complete the center turn lane resurfacing tonight, Monday, Nov. 2.

When the center turn lane is complete, they plan to close Rochester Road between the Belt Highway and I-29 at Exit 50 for resurfacing. The closure is scheduled for the night of Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. through Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 7 a.m. Motorists will need to use an alternate route.

Following the paving of Rochester Road, crews will move to Frederick Avenue between the Belt Highway and I-29 at Exit 47. One lane, each direction, of Frederick Avenue will remain open during that work, though there will be impacts to some intersections, including turning restrictions.

The final step of the project is striping, which crews hope to complete by mid-November.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change. Please remember that all work zones are NO PHONE zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive. Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention to all roadway signing and barricades.
