Pavement Sampling to Close I-70 Lanes in Columbia

COLUMBIA – Core drilling operations conducted by the Missouri Department of Transportation will close lanes of Interstate 70 in Columbia next week.

Crews will close one eastbound lane of I-70 overnight between Stadium Boulevard and Rangeline Street on Sunday, November 1. That work will include the closure of the Business Loop 70 entrance ramp to eastbound I-70.

On the evening of Monday, November 2, one eastbound lane will be closed between mile markers Stadium Boulevard and Business Loop 70, and one westbound lane between Rangeline Street and Providence Road. That work will also require the closure of the Route 163 entrance ramp to westbound I-70.

All closures will take place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night.

Core drilling involves taking samples of the roadway for evaluation. This allows pavement specialists with MoDOT to analyze the structural integrity of the roadway and determine if the concrete is in need of replacement.

Message boards will be in place to warn motorists in advance of the closure. Drivers are advised to slow down through all work zones and obey all traffic signs. MoDOT appreciates the patience of travelers while this work takes place.

The work is weather permitting and could be delayed.
