Atchison County Route U bridge repairs complete

PHELPS CITY, Mo. – Repairs to the new Atchison County Route U bridge over a drainage ditch near Phelps City were completed yesterday. Phillips Hardy, Inc., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, re-closed the bridge during a post-construction inspection to further evaluate the bridge girders. After completing repairs, the roadway was reopened to local traffic yesterday afternoon.

Route U remains closed to thru traffic due to damage sustained during the spring 2019 flooding. A contract to resurface Atchison County Route U from U.S. Route 136 to Route E near Phelps City, was awarded during the Aug. 21 bid letting to Herzog Contracting Corp. A project start date has not yet been determined.

The Route U bridge is included in a project that has replaced the decks of three other bridges in Holt County on Routes H and T. These bridges are included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

Drivers are urged to stay alert and pay attention to all roadway signing and barricades.
