ALERT: U.S. Route 65 south of Chillicothe remains closed

At Grand River Bridge deck replacement project

CHILLICOTHE, Mo. – U.S. Route 65 south of Chillicothe did not reopen this morning as planned. The repairs done overnight are not yet strong enough to support traffic and need more cure time before the roadway can reopen. Contractors from Radmacher Brothers Excavating Co., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, hope to reopen the route by 6 p.m. tonight. Until then, drivers should use the signed detour along Routes Z, C, DD, D and U.S. Route 36. Route C between Route Z and U.S. Route 36 will remain closed to all but local traffic – those living and/or working along Route C – until U.S. Route 65 reopens.

When reopened, U.S. Route 65 will again be open to only one lane, with an 11.5-foot width restriction in place.

The project to replace the bridge deck over the Grand River has been active since early March. This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

Contractors plan to have the bridge open to two-way traffic in early December. As with all construction, work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.

Please remember that all work zones are NO PHONE zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive alive. Drivers are urged to stay alert, pay attention to all roadway signing, and never drive around barricades.
