St. Joseph, Mo. – A variety of circumstances have delayed the contractor on the paving of Interstate 29 in southern Buchanan County. The Missouri Department of Transportation contracted with Herzog Contracting Corp. to resurface I-29 from just south of Route O to the Platte County line. That work is set to begin at daybreak tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020.
Crews will start tomorrow morning with patching work using single lane closures of I-29, both directions, at the Pigeon Creek and Bee Creek bridges.
If time remains Saturday, crews will begin milling at overpasses and ramp ends. This milling work will continue through Sunday, daylight hours, and will include short-term ramp closures as crews progress through the project limits.
When the milling operation is complete, paving will begin as night work. This phase of the project is scheduled to begin Wednesday night, Sept. 16. Crews are scheduled to work six nights a week from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. Currently, no work is planned for Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Paving will be conducted under single-lane closures. One lane in each direction is expected to remain open throughout the project with a 12-foot width restriction. The contractor plans to have all paving work completed by Wednesday, Sept. 23.
All work is weather-permitting and schedules, including the completion date, are subject to change.
Motorist are urged to stay alert and pay attention to all roadway signing and barricades and to eliminate distractions. Crews will be working close to traffic. Please remember that all work zones are NO PHONE zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive.
