Crews Plan to OPEN All New 140th St. Bridge over I-49 on Aug. 28

This Bridge is Included in Gov. Parson's Focus on Bridges Program

JACKSON COUNTY– The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to re-open the 140th St. bridge over I-49 in Grandview, MO as early as 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28. All work and openings are weather permitting. In order to open the bridge, crews will need to:

  • Close the right lane of southbound I-49 at 140th St. from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both Thursday, Aug. 27 and Friday, Aug. 28.
  • Close the right lane of northbound I-49 at 140th St. from 8:30 a.m. to 2 to 2 p.m. on both Thursday, Aug. 27 and Friday, Aug. 28.

This bridge is included in Governor Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges Program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state. This is the sixth bridge to open of 14 bridges in the Kansas City district included in this program. Governor Parson, alongside other state and local officials, visited the bridge prior to construction to discuss the importance of investing in transportation.

The original 140th St. bridge was built in 1960 and was widened in 1978. It had reached the end of its service life to Missourians necessitating its replacement. This project benefits both motorists and pedestrians by providing a brand new bridge and ADA improvements. Construction began in May 2020 and the work has been completed on schedule. The total cost of the project was $3.1 million.
