Update for Week of August 24 - Marshfield I-44 Interchange/Roundabout Projects

TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGES:

  • One-lane traffic and delays on Hubble Drive between Rifle Range Road and Washington Street Aug. 20-22 for resurfacing
  • Buffalo Street on the south side and Banning Street on the southeast side of Hubble Drive (Route CC) CLOSED

Work Scheduled:  

  • Interchange:
    • Laying base rock on south side of I-44 for relocated section of Route CC
    • Installing bridge deck (driving surface) of new Route CC bridge over I-44
    • Pouring concrete for curb and gutter at east side of I-44 for new roundabout
    • Paving I-44 on and off ramps and new Route CC
  • Roundabout:
    • Grading and hauling rock/dirt on Route CC at Buffalo Street on the south side and Banning Street on the southeast side
    • Paving Buffalo Street south approach and Banning Street southeast approach of new roundabout
    • Resurfacing Hubble Drive (Webster County Route CC) between Rifle Range Road and Washington Street

 

Traffic Impacts:  

 

  • Interchange:
    • ROAD CLOSED: Brinkley Road (I-44 north outer road) CLOSED east of Webster County Route W
      • Signed detour: Webster County Route W, Vinyard Road and Rusty Road
      • Brinkley Road closed until fall 2020
    • Nighttime lane closings on I-44 at Mile Marker 103 possible at times. Work hours: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
    • Drivers should not pass in the work zone due to narrowed driving lanes on I-44 at Mile Marker 103
    • I-44 speed limit reduced to 60 mph at times
    • Crews and equipment close to traffic in areas
  • Roundabout:
    • One-Lane Traffic and Delays on Hubble Drive between Rifle Range Road and Washington Street Aug. 20-22
      • One-lane traffic with flaggers directing drivers on Hubble Drive (Route CC) where crews are working
      • Drivers should be cautious when entering Hubble Drive some side streets
      • Delays can be expected during higher traffic volume times
    • CITY STREETS CLOSED: Buffalo Street on the south side and Banning Street on the southeast side of Hubble Drive (Route CC) CLOSED until mid-September
      • Signed detours in place
      • Drivers will have to use detour to get from Buffalo and Banning Streets to Hubble Drive
    • Crews and equipment close to traffic 

 

(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.)

Project Summary:

  • Interchange:
    • Build a new bridge to take Webster County Route CC over I-44 at Mile Marker 103
    • Relocate Webster County Route CC at Rifle Range Road to intersect with I-44
    • Build interchange ramps so drivers safely exit and enter I-44 at Webster County Route CC
    • Build roundabouts at either end of interchange to connect with Brinkley Road/I-44 outer road on the west and Marshall Road/Route CC on the east
    • Prime Contractor: H.R. Quadri Contractors, LLC of Van Buren
    • Completion Date: June 2021. However, the interchange will be open to traffic by December 31, 2020.
    • Total Project Cost: $16.4 million
  • Roundabout:
    • Build a roundabout at the intersection of Hubble Drive, Buffalo Street and Banning Street
    • Install new street lights at roundabout
    • Resurface Hubble Drive between Rifle Range Road and Spur Drive (Route 38) in Marshfield
    • Route CC between Rifle Range Road and Route 38 in Marshfield turned over to the city of Marshfield after completion of interchange project
    • Prime Contractor: APAC-Central, Springfield
    • Completion Date: December 2020
    • Total Project Cost: $1.9 million
