MoDOT closes I-64 in St. Louis City this weekend to remove Pine St. bridge

ST. LOUIS – Drivers heading downtown this weekend should avoid I-64 or allow themselves extra time as crews will close the interstate between the Mississippi River and Jefferson Avenue.

Crews will start closing the interstate in both directions at 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 14 to remove the Pine Street bridge over the interstate. All lanes will be closed by 8 p.m.

Eastbound traffic will exit at Jefferson, follow Jefferson north to Cass Avenue and take Cass Avenue to the Interstate 70 Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge to get to eastbound I-64 in Illinois.  Westbound traffic will cross the Mississppi River, take I-44 west to Jefferson, exit at Jefferson and take Jefferson to return to westbound I-64.

Since much of the detour is on city streets, drivers are encouraged to slow down and maintain the posted speed limit through the work zone and on the city streets.

All I-64 lanes are scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, August 17.
