One lane of Interstate 229 northbound now closed

One southbound lane to close tomorrow

St. Joseph, Mo. – Deterioration of the double-decker bridge deck on northbound Interstate 229 has closed one lane at the 6.2 mile marker. Local crews from the Missouri Department of Transportation have closed the driving lane (right lane) of northbound I-229 in downtown St. Joseph north of the Edmond Street ramp (Exit 6) to begin repairs to a hole that formed in the bridge’s driving surface. The lane closure will be in place through Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 9 a.m.

The passing lane (left lane) of southbound I-229 will also be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. so crews may safely pour concrete for the repair work.

Crews plan to leave one lane in each direction of I-229 open during the work, but a 12-foot width restriction will be in place around the clock during the lane closures.

Motorists may experience delays for the duration of the lane closures and may want to use an alternate route.

All work is weather-permitting and schedules are subject to change. Motorists are urged to stay alert and pay attention to all roadway signing and barricades and to eliminate distractions. Crews will be working close to the traveling public. Please remember all roads are NO PHONE zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive.
