Chip Seal Project Set to Begin for U.S. Route 136 in Schuyler, Scotland and Clark County

MACON – Weather and schedule permitting, tomorrow, July 30, crews will begin a sealing project that will extend through Schuyler, Scotland and Clark County. The project goes from Downing and runs to Medill, approximately 30 miles. Crews will begin work on the east end of Medill and go west.

"Crews will be applying liquid asphalt that helps seal off any cracks that may be in the road, and will then apply small aggregate,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Amy Crawford.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work zones using a pilot car while the work is completed. Please obey all work zone signs and personnel. Message boards will be up to notify motorists of the upcoming work.

"Motorists need to slow down on roads where sealing is in progress,” said Crawford. “Most damage to vehicles comes when drivers are going too fast or ignore road conditions in a chip seal work zone.”

W. L. Miller of Hamilton, Illinois, was awarded the project.
