Weekday Maintenance Work to Close Sorrels Overpass

BOONE COUNTY – A bridge over Interstate 70 west of Columbia will be undergoing repairs that will close the roadway for several weekday stretches in July. Motorists will need to find alternate routes around the work zone.

Missouri Department of Transportation crews will begin performing bridge deck repairs on the Sorrels Overpass over Interstate 70 on Monday, July 6. The work will close the overpass 24 hours a day Monday through Friday. The overpass will be open on weekends until the project’s scheduled completion date on Friday, July 24.

“These repairs will improve the driving surface of the roadway and extend the life of the bridge deck,” says MoDOT Area Engineer Kirsten Munck. “A full replacement of the deck is scheduled to take place in 2023, pending available funding.”

Signs will alert motorists to the closure and MoDOT will provide any updates or schedule changes through the Traveler Information Map and through MoDOT Central District social media pages.

Work is weather permitting and could be delayed.
