LACLEDE/DALLAS COUNTY – As part of a larger project to extend the life of several roadways around and within one of Missouri’s busiest state parks, chip seal operations will begin next week in Laclede and Dallas Counties.
A contractor working for the Missouri Department of Transportation will begin chip seal operations on Route 32 beginning Monday, June 29. Once chip seal operations have been completed on Route 32, crews will begin chip sealing Routes 64 and 64A, and, in partnership with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, various roadways in Bennett Spring State Park..
Delays are possible while these work zones are in place. MoDOT says drivers should stay focused on the road, obey all traffic signs and give plenty of room to workers.
These roadway improvements are part of a project to improve the driving surfaces and extend the lifeof these roadways. Chip seal operations provide a new driving surface that improves traction, seals cracks, and prevents water from penetrating the roadway. All at one-third the cost of a conventional asphalt overlay.
MoDOT says more details will be provided regarding the start of chip seal operations on Routes 64 and 64A before work begins. That information will be shared through message boards, social media, local media and on the MoDOT Traveler Information Map. Project information and an estimated timeline are also available at modot.org/BennettSpringAreaChipSeal.
This work is weather permitting and could be delayed.
