ADA Improvements Project to Temporarily Impact Columbia Traffic

COLUMBIA – As part of the ongoing sidewalk and pedestrian improvements project along Missouri Route 163 (Providence Road) in Columbia, southbound access from one city street will be limited on Monday.

Access to south Providence Road and Route K from east Old Plank Road will be closed on Monday, June 22. Motorists will still be able to access Providence Road from alternate routes.

Message boards and signs will be in place to alert motorists of the closure. The Missouri Department of Transportation says drivers are advised to use caution in work zones, slow down and watch for crews.

The lane closure will allow contractors working for to make improvements that will bring sidewalks into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The work is part of a project making ADA improvements along Providence Road from Vandiver Drive to Route K. More information can be found at modot.org/route-163-sidewalkpedestrian-improvements.

This project is expected to be completed by fall 2020.

This work is weather permitting and could be delayed.
