Portion of Eastbound I-70 in Downtown Loop Will be CLOSED Beginning June 12

JACKSON COUNTY– The Missouri Department of Transportation will CLOSE eastbound I-70 (southbound U.S. 71) within the east side of the downtown loop beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 12. All lanes and ramps will be re-opened by approximately 6 a.m. on Monday, June 15. The closure will begin in the northeast corner of the downtown loop along eastbound I-70 (southbound U.S. 71) and end approximately where I-670 merges into I-70. Motorists must find alternate routes. The following ramps will be also closed:

    • Southbound I-35/I-29 to eastbound I-70.
    • Admiral Blvd. to eastbound I-70.
    • 10th St. to eastbound I-70.
    • 14th St. to eastbound I-70.

IMPORTANT: This closure will impact drivers using the detour currently in place for KDOT’s Lewis and Clark Bridge replacement project. Motorists traveling this direction on I-35 south should take I-70 west to I-35 south, to Broadway/27th St. to continue on to Kansas.

This closure is part of a pavement rehabilitation project along both directions of I-70 in downtown Kansas City from approximately Admiral Blvd. to the Benton Curve scheduled to be completed by mid-October 2020. All work is weather permitting.

Please be patient and considerate to your fellow motorists. Use the zipper merge and take turns at merge points.  Please remember that all work zones are NO PHONE ZONES. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
