Signal improvements planned at Belt and Pear

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – A new signal cabinet and flashing yellow arrow signals are coming this week to the intersection of U.S. Route 169 (Belt Highway) and Loop 29 (Pear Street). Replacing the signal cabinet is part of routine signal maintenance. Our signal crew will take advantage of the work and change out the signal heads in all four directions to flashing yellow arrows.

The work is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, beginning at 6:30 a.m. All work should be complete by 4 p.m.

At times throughout the day on Thursday, certain traffic patterns including both through traffic and turning traffic may be restricted. It may also be necessary to turn off the power at the intersection for brief periods of time. During the signal power outage, temporary stop signs will be in place and drivers should treat the intersection as a four-way stop.

Flashing yellow arrows are in use in St. Joseph, many areas of Northwest Missouri and across the country. They have proven to increase safety and reduce crashes. All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change. Please remember that all work zones are NO PHONE zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive. Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones.
