LACLEDE/DALLAS COUNTY –Work to extend the life of several roadways around and within one of Missouri’s busiest state parks is slated to begin next week with culvert pipe and guardrail replacements.
A contractor working for the Missouri Department of Transportation will replace a culvert pipe at the intersection of Route 32 and Normandy Drive beginning Wednesday, June 10. Normandy Road will be closed to traffic between Route 32 and English Road for up to 14 days. Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes during this time.
Starting June 15, crews will also be replacing guardrail on Route 32 at various locations between Harrison Avenue in Lebanon and Route P in Dallas County, and at the Route 64 bridge over Goodwin Hallow Creek, west of Rolling Hills Road. Traffic will be reduced to one lane at these locations while work takes place. Crews will guide traffic through work zones.
Delays are possible while these work zones are in place. MoDOT says drivers should stay focused on the road, obey all traffic signs and give plenty of room to workers.
These roadway improvements are part of a larger project to extend the life of Routes 32, 64, 64A and, in partnership with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, various roads in Bennett Spring State Park. These roadways will also undergo chip sealing in the coming weeks. Chip seal work provides a new driving surface that improves traction, seals cracks, and prevents water from penetrating the roadway. All at one-third the cost of a conventional asphalt overlay.
MoDOT says more details will be provided regarding the start of chip seal operations in the area before work begins. That information will be shared through message boards, social media, local media and on the MoDOT Traveler Information Map. Project information and an estimated timeline are also available at modot.org/BennettSpringAreaChipSeal.
This work is weather permitting and could be delayed.
