Resurfacing scheduled to begin on Interstate 29 in southern Buchanan County

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – A new start date has been set for the planned resurfacing of Interstate 29 in southern Buchanan County. The Missouri Department of Transportation contracted with Herzog Contracting Corp. to complete the project between Route O and the Platte County line.

The contractor now plans to begin work on Tuesday, June 2, with guardrail and slope repairs. I-29 could be narrowed to one lane in each direction to allow crews to work safely on these two off-road portions of the project. The contractor plans to work daylight hours, Monday through Saturday.

Other phases of the work will be conducted at night to lessen impacts to travelers. Those phases are planned as follows, though the exact timing of the work could change:

  • July 20 – 31: Concrete patching (which could include around-the-clock single lane closures)
  • Sept. 25 – 30: Asphalt patching
  • Oct. 1 – 15: Asphalt paving and seal coat
  • Oct. 16 – 19: Striping

One lane in each direction is expected to remain open throughout the project with a 12-foot width restriction.

All work is weather-permitting and schedules are subject to change. Motorists are urged to stay alert and pay attention to all roadway signing and barricades and to eliminate distractions. Crews will be working close to traffic. Please remember that all work zones are NO PHONE zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive.
