Southbound Interstate 55 to Close Overnight at Center Junction

Contractor to Make Emergency Bridge Repairs

SIKESTON-As construction of the diverging diamond interchange at Interstate 55 and U.S. Route 61 (mile marker 99) between Cape Girardeau and Jackson, Missouri, continues emergency repairs on the southbound portion of the Interstate 55 bridge are planned with an overnight closure Thursday. There will be no impacts to northbound traffic.

Weather permitting, the southbound portion of Interstate 55 bridge will be closed from Exit 105 (Fruitland) to Exit 99 (Route 61) on Thursday, May 21, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for emergency bridge repairs. The southbound onramp at Exit 99 will remain open.

Planned work will include repairing potholes on the bridge. Work will begin at 7 p.m. and will be completed by 6 a.m.

The work zones will be marked with signs.  Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
