MoDOT: Public Comments Requested on Future U.S. Route 60 Widening in Springfield

UPDATED STUDY AREA and COMMENT PERIOD DATES

Springfield, Greene County – Anyone interested in future projects to widen U.S. Route 60 (James River Freeway) to six lanes between Kansas Expressway and U.S. Route 65 in Springfield are encouraged to submit comments to the Missouri Department of Transportation between Friday, May 15 and Friday, May 29.

While there is no time frame for construction, MoDOT engineers are planning projects to widen the highway by adding one lane in each direction in the median of James River Freeway. The project will create a six lane roadway – three lanes in each direction. Also, the Route 60 bridges over Campbell Avenue will be widened to accommodate the new lanes.

The auxiliary lanes that connect ramps between Glenstone Avenue and Kansas Expressway will remain in place.

Anyone interested in commenting on future projects is encouraged to email MoDOT’s Southwest District in Springfield at swcr@modot.mo.gov or call the local office at 417.895.7600. The comment period runs from Friday, May 15, until Friday, May 29.

While there is no timetable for the projects, gathering input helps MoDOT understand the possible opportunities and opinions of area residents who travel the roadway.

Currently, there is a project to widen James River Freeway to six lanes between National Avenue and U.S. Route 65. That project is scheduled for construction in fall 2020 or spring 2021.
