St. Clair County – The St. Clair County Route ZZ bridge over Truman Lake east of Lowry City will CLOSE the week of May 18 when work begins to rehabilitate the bridge, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.
The bridge will remain closed until late September as contractor crews remove the bridge deck (driving surface) and replace it with a new surface. Additionally, new guardrail will be installed at either end of the bridge along with replacing bridge joints and repairing barrier wall.
Traffic Impacts:
- Both lanes of Route ZZ CLOSED to traffic beginning the week of May 18
- Drivers will have access to entrances at either end of the bridge, but will not be able to cross the bridge during this project
- Drivers will be directed around the work zone along a signed detour using Routes Z, NN and C
- Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the work zone
The bridge was built in 1978 and carries approximately 300 vehicles per day.
A second bridge on St. Clair County Route C also is part of this contract. Work to replace the driving surface of that bridge is expected to begin in the spring of 2021.
Weather and/or scheduling delays will alter the work schedule.

- Prime Contractor: Capital Paving & Construction LLC, Columbia
- Completion Date: December 1, 2021 (However, the Route ZZ/Truman Lake bridge is expected to be completed and open to traffic by mid- to late September 2020)
- Total project cost: $5.45 million
