ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The next stage of a resurfacing project on Route 6 begins next week. The Missouri Department of Transportation contracted with Herzog Contracting Corp. to complete the resurfacing of Route 6 from just west of Route AC (Riverside Road) to Route 31.
With pavement repairs complete, paving can begin. Crews plan to begin milling off portions of the old surface, followed by an asphalt overlay on Thursday, April 23. The contractor plans to begin on the east end of the project and move westward.
Route 6 will be narrowed to one lane around the paving operations with a pilot car leading drivers around the work zone.
A 10.5-foot width restriction will be in place for the duration of the project.
During daylight hours Monday through Saturday, crews will be on site and the work zone will be active. Some work may occur on Sundays, if necessary, to complete the project on schedule. Following the asphalt will be shoulder work, striping and guardrail work. The project should be complete by mid-June.
Signs will be in place alerting motorists of the work and planned lane closures. All work is weather permitting and could be rescheduled.
All work zones are No Phone Zones. MoDOT encourages all travelers to slow down and pay attention, especially in work zones, as there will be large equipment and workers near the driving lanes.
