Bridge Replacement, Painting Projects Awarded by Highway Commission

MACON – At its most recent meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded two contracts for bridge work on Macon County Route DD.  One contract was awarded to Phillips Hardy, of Columbia, Missouri, for a bridge replacement over Billy’s Branch, located just west of Ten Mile. The total cost of the project is approximately $741,959.

This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

Another contract is to Omega Coatings and Construction, LLC, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, for bridge painting on Middle Fork Salt River Bridge, located approximately 3 miles east of U.S. Route 63 on Route DD. The cost of the project is approximately $63,000. The contractor has 30 calendar days to complete this project.

“While both of these projects will require the bridges to be closed, they will not happen concurrently,” said Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Brian Untiedt. “The plan is to complete the painting work at Middle Fork Salt River, and once that bridge is open, the work on Billy’s Branch will begin,” he added.

Once replaced, Billy’s Branch will be 24 feet wide, which is 4 feet wider than the existing bridge. Guardrail will also be added to increase the safety of motorists crossing the bridge.  The contractor has 105 calendar days to complete the project.

This work could begin as early as this summer and should be completed by fall.

“We will be able to provide a more specific schedule on these bridge projects once the contractors provide the plans for completing the work,” said Untiedt.
