U.S. Route 24 Bridge Near Paris in Monroe County Now Open

Project

HANNIBAL – Under construction since January 29, the bridge on U.S. Route 24 over Middle Fork Salt River, located one mile west of Missouri Route 15 near Paris, is now open.

“The bridge, built in 1967, received a new deck and guardrail as part of the project,” explained Missouri Department of Transportation Resident Engineer Shane Viers.  “While the rehabilitation work to the structure is complete, some additional clean-up work may continue off the roadway,” he added.

This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state. The contract for this project includes two additional projects for the resurfacing 39 miles of U.S. 24 from Monroe City to the Randolph County line and was awarded last fall to Magruder Paving, LLC in the amount of $7,223,865.

“The initial phase of the resurfacing projects began last month as crews started pavement repairs in preparation for asphalt operations scheduled to begin the end of May,” Viers added.

Spring is here and highway work zones are beginning to pop up in Missouri.  Barrel Bob, MoDOT’s official work zone spokesbarrel, says as you approach a work zone, please don’t drive distracted.  Always buckle up and put your phone down for your safety and the safety of highway workers.  All work zones are online at www.modot.org, and you can receive the latest news about road work in your area by signing up for e-updates.
