COLUMBIA– As part of the ongoing sidewalk and pedestrian improvements project along Missouri Routes 763 (College Avenue) and 163 (Providence Road) in Columbia, a downtown turn lane will temporarily close next week.
The closure of the northbound turn lane from Providence Road to Elm Street will allow contractors working for the Missouri Department of Transportation to make improvements that will bring sidewalks into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The turn lane will close Monday, April 13 and will not reopen until Monday, April 20. Motorists will still be able to access Elm Street from alternate routes.
Next week crews will be working on southbound Providence Road between Locust Street and Rollins Street, which will require intermittent lane closures. One lane of traffic will be open in each direction at all times. This work will be done during daytime hours.
Message boards and signs will be in place to alert motorists of lane closures. Please use caution in work zones, slow down and watch for crews.
This project is expected to be completed by fall 2020.
This work is weather permitting and could be delayed.
