UPDATE: One lane of Grand River Bridge south of Chillicothe to close

Lane closure is part of an ongoing bridge deck replacement project

CHILLICOTHE, Mo. – A rehabilitation project to place a new bridge deck The Grand River Bridge on U.S. Route 65 south of Chillicothe begins a new phase next week. Contractors from Radmacher Brothers Excavating Co. working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will narrow the bridge to one lane beginning Monday, April 13. This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

The first portion of the project, which wrapped up this week, was the relocation of an access road on the north side of the bridge.

Bridge construction begins Monday, April 13, at 7 a.m. and will be staged to allow one lane of traffic over the bridge throughout much of the project, with an 11.5-foot width restriction. Temporary traffic signals will be used to guide motorists through the work zone. Drivers may expect delays.

During two portions of the project to connect the new bridge deck with the roadway, a complete closure of U.S. Route 65 at the bridge will be necessary. The exact dates of the closures are not known at this time, but one is anticipated in mid to late June and one in mid to late October. During those closures, traffic will be directed over a signed detour route on Routes Z, C and U.S. Route 36.

Contractors plan to have the bridge open to two-way traffic before Thanksgiving.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change. Please remember that all work zones are NO PHONE zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive. Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones and on the detour routes.
