MoDOT starts construction on I-270 North

ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Department of Transportation is moving into the construction phase of the I-270 North Design-Build Project. On April 20, 2020, the eastbound I-270 off-ramp to Washington Street/Elizabeth Avenue will close. This closure will allow construction of a new south outer road connecting New Florissant Road and Elizabeth Avenue.

“We are committed to keeping the public informed of the scope and schedule of work planned in the I-270 North corridor to minimize disruption and allow them to adjust their travel routes during construction,” said I-270 North Project Director Justin Wolf. “With current social distancing orders, MoDOT’s focus is to keep people informed through virtual meetings, website chats, social media, and other electronic engagement platforms.”

The I-270 North Design-Build Project runs from James S. McDonnell Boulevard to Bellefontaine Road. It will update and replace aging pavement and bridges, better link communities, improve accessibility for both bicyclists and pedestrians, and enhance traffic operations and safety throughout the corridor.

MoDOT encourages travelers and area residents to visit the I-270 North project website at http://www.i270north.org for important information including a project overview, graphic displays of planned construction, and detour maps. Website visitors can also leave comments or sign up for ongoing updates.

The public can also contact MoDOT’s customer service center at 1-314-275-1500 or contact I-270 North Project Communications Coordinator, Nina M. Thompson, at nina.thompson@modot.mo.gov.
