Geological Testing to Impact I-70 Traffic Near Rocheport Bridge

BOONE/COOPER COUNTY – Motorists traveling along Interstate 70 will see some activity at the Missouri River Bridge near Rocheport over the next several weeks.

As part of preparations for the construction of the new bridge, contractors for the Missouri Department of Transportation will be gathering geo-technical data and survey information. The tests, which involve drilling holes beneath the surface, will provide valuable information about the area’s rock and soil stability.

This process will require occasional lane closures while work takes place along the roadway and in the median. A single lane of westbound Interstate 70 will be closed at various locations on or near the bridge Tuesday, March 24 through Friday, March 27 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Signs will be in place to alert motorists to the closures. Drivers are asked to slow down, pay attention and use caution through the work zone for the protection of themselves, other drivers and crews working along the road.

While no exact timeline has been established for the new bridge, construction is expected to begin in 2022.

Work is weather permitting and could be delayed.
