Interstates 29 and 229 bridge work to begin tomorrow

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Motorists on Interstates 229 and 29 will encounter single-lane traffic various locations throughout next week. Herzog Contracting Corp., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, plan to repair numerous bridge ends on portions of I-29 and I-229 beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, weather permitting.

Crews plan to begin work on I-29 repairing both north and southbound bridge ends of the Pigeon Creek Bridge (mile marker 39.6) and Bee Creek Bridge (mile marker 33.8).

Repairs are then expected to begin on the I-229 northbound driving lane from 22nd Street to the Cook Road overpass on Wednesday, March 18, weather permitting. Crews will then move to the southbound driving lane followed by the northbound passing lane and lastly, the soutbound passing lane. This work will include various short-term ramp closures.

One lane each direction of I-229 and I-29 will remain open during the work and a 14-foot width restriction will be in place around the clock. While crews may only be on site during daylight hours, some lane closures may remain in place overnight.

During the work motorists may experience delays. The project is weather dependent and could be rescheduled.
