Resurfacing and Reconstruction Projects Will Begin on Routes in Macon and Shelby County

MACON – Weather permitting, March 30, Emery Sapp, of Columbia, Missouri, will begin preparing for resurfacing projects in Macon and Shelby County. They will be completing pavement repairs on U.S. Route 36 in Macon and Shelby County. Once pavement repairs have been made, crews will shift to resurfacing.

The first resurfacing project will be on U.S. Route 36 in Shelby County. Crews will be working on the eastbound lanes from 1.7 miles west of Clarence to approximately 2 miles east of Shelby County Route PP near Lakenan.

Once complete, crews will begin resurfacing the westbound lanes of U.S. Route 36 in Macon and Shelby County. The project goes from 1.7 miles west of Shelby County Route Z to North Fork Salt River near Hunnewell, and 2.2 miles west of Missouri Route 151 at Clarence to just east of U.S. Route 63 near Macon.

“The resurfacing projects on U.S. 36 in Macon and Shelby County will include a 2-inch overlay with paved shoulders, along with edge line rumble strips to increase safety,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Untiedt.

The final project will be the reconstruction of an area of Macon County Route O near Bevier. Crews will be working just north of the U.S. Route 36 interchange at Bevier, near Love's Truck Stop, to the south ramps at the interchange. Most of this work will be completed at night.

“The project on Route O will include milling out the existing pavement and replacing it due to extreme deterioration from large truck traffic,” Untiedt added.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work zones while the work is completed. Short term closures of the interchange ramps are expected with Route O.

The total costs of these projects is $6,632,692.
