Preparations to Begin for Resurfacing and Safety Improvement Projects in Marion County

Emery Sapp & Sons of Columbia is set to begin preparations next week for the contract which includes resurfacing on U.S. Route 24/61 and safety improvements at the Route F/U.S. 61 intersection in Marion County.  The contract was awarded earlier this year for three projects in the amount of $6,822,876 at the following locations:

  • S. Route 61 resurfacing south of Route F to Missouri Route 168 ($3,773,683)
  • S. Route 24 resurfacing from U.S. Route 61 to U.S. Route 36 ($2,140,337)
  • Route F and U.S. Route 61/U.S. Route 24 intersection safety improvements south of Palmyra ($908,856)

Weather permitting, work will begin on  March 16 with pavement repairs in the southbound lane from just north of U.S. Route 24/61 and Route F intersection. “ Work on the project will include both daytime and overnight lane closures during various stages, so for the safety of our contractors and the traveling public, motorists are urged to be attentive when driving through work zones and put your phone down to eliminate distractions,” explained Brian Untiedt, Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer.  “There will be active work zones throughout the boundaries of these projects and work may be occurring in multiple locations concurrently,” he added.  The project is scheduled to be completed by early September, weather permitting.
