One Lane of Route 22 Closed Due to Hole in Bridge Deck

AUDRAIN COUNTY – Traffic along Route 22 in Audrain County will continue to flow as Missouri Department of Transportation crews work to repair damages on a bridge east of Centralia that crosses Youngs Creek.

MoDOT was notified of the issue early Tuesday morning. A hole in the deck of the westbound lane of the bridge had formed, creating a safety concern for travelers. That lane has been closed and crews will begin making repairs as soon as possible.

“As pavement expands and contracts, especially when moisture gets in the roadway, it can cause damage to the integrity of the road and bridges,” says MoDOT Northeast District Engineer Paula Gough. “Our crews will work safely and quickly to make the needed repairs and get traffic moving on both lanes as soon as possible.”

The bridge has been inspected and has been cleared for traffic in the eastbound lane. MoDOT will be flagging traffic through the open lane. Please use caution, slow down and provide plenty of space for crews working in the area.

The bridge was built in 1953, making it 67 years old. It is one of 10,384 bridges on the state highway system.
