Next Phase of Route 54 Safety Improvements Begin Next Week in Cole County

JEFFERSON CITY – As the next phase of the U.S. Route 54 safety improvements project in Cole County begins, motorists may see intermittent lane closures starting next week on Christy Drive in Jefferson City.

Construction of a barrier wall and guardrail work along Christy Drive and eastbound Route 54 will begin Monday, February 10. Crews will also be upgrading the existing guardrail and building a new concrete barrier wall on both sides of the Ellis Boulevard interchange along eastbound Route 54.

This phase of the project is expected to take three weeks to complete. Flaggers will guide motorists through Christy Drive while work takes place. Motorists will need to plan extra travel time, slow down and pay attention in work zones.

This work is part of a larger project making pavement and safety improvements to Route 54 from Stadium Boulevard in Jefferson City to the Miller County line. The project is expected to be completed by November 1, 2020.

The work is weather permitting and could be delayed. For more information about this project or other transportation-related matters, please call 1-888-ASK-MoDOT (275-6636) or visit www.modot.org/central. Follow the MoDOT Central Missouri District on Facebook and Twitter for project updates.
