Route 54 Improvement Project Begins Next Week in Cole County

COLE COUNTY – Contractors working for the Missouri Department of Transportation will begin a safety improvement project on U.S. Route 54 south of Jefferson City next week.

Construction will begin Monday, January 27 on eastbound and westbound Route 54 between the Stadium Boulevard intersection in Jefferson City and the Miller County line. Work will require intermittent day and overnight lane closures in both directions.

Crews will start by installing guardrails and guard cables along Route 54. The new guard cable and guardrail along this heavily traveled section of Route 54 will help ensure motorist safety.  The second phase of the project, which is expected to begin in the next few weeks, will include pavement improvements along the same stretch of roadway.

Signs will guide motorists through work zones while work takes place. Motorists will need to plan extra travel time, slow down and pay attention in work zones.

The project is scheduled to be completed by November 1, 2020. The work is weather permitting and could be delayed.
